1. breathing room – I am forever grateful that both GVL and PVL are helping/have helped us out here in Reference at Gibson. Add the fact that I didn’t do the holds/books ratio; I was able to put up new endcaps, revamp the signage in the lobby, coordinate the volunteer tasks ahead of time, laminate the new signage for the magazines, clear out the remainder of the storage items, update our blog, go through the large amount of mass market endcaps that came in the donations, look up an obituary, do some reader’s advisory requests for a patron, make a donation flowchart, check my shelftalkers in fiction… I feel like a librarian again J
2. I got to answer some more difficult reference questions as opposed to the more basic ones like what beauty schools are licensed here in Nevada.
3. A daily patron who calls over the telephone every day asking for the conductors of symphonies across the country. Not only have I learned that there are a lot of orchestras in small towns, he makes me smile. He’s a senior citizen who keeps his brain “fresh” by doing crosswords – I think.
4. Thanksgiving is next week – we’re having buffalo! Yum! American as apple pie.
5. burnt-out feeling disappearing. Did I mention I feel like a librarian again?
